Types of Hearing Devices (form factors)

BTE hearing aid

Behind-the-ear (BTE)

BTEs sit behind the ear and use a thin plastic tubing that transports sound into the hearing aid. This is for wide range of hearing loss.

RITE hearing aid

Receiver-in-the-ear (RITE)

Similar to BTEs, RITEs sit behind the ear and have a thin receiver wire that gets placed into the ear canal. This is best for mild to severe hearing loss.

ITE hearing aid

In-the-ear (ITE)

ITEs go directly in the ear making them much less noticeable. These are great for moderate to severe hearing loss and for those with difficulty handling small items.

ITC hearing aid

In-the-canal (ITC)

ITCs fit deeply into the ear canal and are less visible than ITEs. ITCs are custom made to fit the wearer's ear shape. These are best for mild to mildly severe hearing loss.

CROS BiCROS hearing aid

CROS/BICROS

Suited for those with normal or with slight hearing loss in one ear. Hearing aid that picks up sound from the transmitter and plays it on the better ear.
